Technical issues

I can only hear the audio but I do not see any video picture?

There is a compatibility problem between Windows Media Player and the graphics card on the computer. Ensure that your have downloaded the latest updates from the windows update site at http://update.microsoft.com to get the latest version of the Microsoft DirectX drivers.

Download and install the latest version of Windows Media Player from this Microsoft webpage http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.mspx

  • Open Windows Media Player from the Windows “Start” button or from the shortcut on your desktop.
  • In Windows Media Player 11 the Tools menu is accessed by right clicking the mouse the mouse in the top right hand corner, just to the right of where it says “Media Guide”. Go to the “Tools” menu and select “Options”. This will bring up a new window, select the “Performance” tab on this new window then you should see, towards the bottom, a section titled “Video Acceleration” that has a slider on it.
  • Select the slider and move it to the middle position, then click the “apply” button in the bottom right hand corner and then the “OK” button.
  • Now close the windows media player and launch Scotland Football TV,
  • If you cannot see video then repeat steps 2-4 but move the slider gradually over to the left.
  • If you cannot move the slider then repeat step 1 and 2, this time click on the “advanced…” button.
  • There are a lot of options here, most we do not need to worry about but ensure that the following are all ticked then click OK.
  • Video Rendering
  • Use High Quality
  • Use video smoothing
  • Click “Apply” and then “OK” and then close the windows media player.
  • Test Scotland Football TV and see if you can see any video.
  • If the above has not worked then repeat step 5 and this time move the slider from “Big” left towards “Small”, Click “OK” to close the window and then click “Apply” and “OK” and close the windows media player. Repeat this step until the slider reaches the far left.

When I play a video all I see is a black / green screen

This problem is caused by a compatibility problem between the graphics card and Windows Media Player. Please follow the steps in the FAQ “When I log in and click on a video, I can only hear the audio with no video?”

close

When I am watching the video it keeps stalling and buffering.

Buffering occurring during the middle of matches is caused by the internet connection from your ISP not being fast enough to download the stream. Select the medium format.

If the internet connection is not fast enough then you will hear the commentary continuously but the picture will freeze and progress as a series of stills.

I get a license error when I click on the video.

This will reset all the licenses that were in Windows Media Player so if you download or stream protected music and videos from sites other than Scotland Football TV then you will need to make sure that you can re-acquire the license from the vendor or else you may not be able to play these files again.

First find where the DRM folder is on your computer, the folder is a ‘protected system folder’ which is normally hidden so we need to change some settings to see it.

  • Start Windows Explorer.
  • Click “Tools”, click “Folder Options”, and then click the “View” tab.
  • In the Advanced Settings box
  • Make sure there is a tick next to “Show hidden files and folders”
  • Make sure that there is not a tick next to “Hide protected operating system files” (click ok if a warning comes up)
  • Click “Apply” and then click “OK”
  • Now we need to find the DRM folder.
  • On Windows XP this is usually found in C:/documents and settings/All users/
  • On Windows Vista it is usually found in C:/ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows/DRM
  • Click on the “DRM” folder, then right click on the “DRM” folder and select “Rename Folder” Rename the folder to DRMold. (Click ok if a warning comes up)
  • Open an Internet Explorer window (not Firefox!) and come back to Scotland Football TV and play some of the videos, you will be prompted to download a security upgrade and to acquire a new license, follow the instructions on screen.
